Mild to moderately severe dementia of the Alzheimer type; severe dementia of the Alzheimer's type; mild to moderately severe dementia associated w/ Parkinson's disease.
Mild to moderately severe dementia associated w/ Parkinson's disease Start w/ Exelon Patch 5 once daily after a min of 4 wk. May be increased to Exelon Patch 10. Individual responses may vary & some patients may derive additional benefit from higher doses. Subsequent increases to Exelon Patch 15 should always be based on good tolerability of the current dose & may be considered only after min of 4 wk of treatment at each dose level. Severe dementia of the Alzheimer's type Start w/ Exelon Patch 5 once daily, may be increased to Exelon Patch 10 & then to Exelon Patch 15.
Known hypersensitivity to other carbamate derivatives. Previous history of application site reactions suggestive of allergic contact dermatitis w/ Exelon patch.
Hepatic impairment. Carefully titrate & monitor patients w/ <50 kg body wt; patients w/ Alzheimer's disease wt loss. GI disorders may occur when initiating or increasing dose. Sick sinus syndrome or conduction defects (SA & AV block); active gastric or duodenal ulcers or predisposed to these condition when gastric acid secretions increased; predisposed to urinary obstruction & seizures; history of asthma or obstructive pulmonary disease. Discontinue if allergic contact dermatitis occurs. Do not remove old patch when putting a new one & use of multiple patches at 1 time. May affect ability to drive or operate machinery. Pregnancy & lactation.
